News Today: Sri Lanka Customs highest daily revenue collection 2025 sets new benchmark
Sri Lanka Customs has achieved a historic milestone by recording the highest-ever daily revenue collection in its history. On Wednesday, the Department collected an impressive Rs. 24,918 million in tax revenue, setting a new benchmark for financial performance within the institution.
Officials confirmed that with this record-breaking collection, the total revenue accumulated during the year has reached Rs. 1,867 billion as of October 15, 2025. This strong financial performance reflects increased trade activity, enhanced compliance, and the successful implementation of modern revenue collection strategies.
Based on the current trajectory, Sri Lanka Customs is expected to surpass its annual revenue target of Rs. 2,115 billion set for 2025. This achievement not only highlights operational efficiency but also reinforces the department’s critical role in supporting Sri Lanka’s national economy and fiscal stability.
During internal evaluations, officials attributed this success to improved digital systems, strengthened border control practices, and faster customs clearance procedures that minimize delays in imports and exports. Additionally, ongoing measures to tackle tax evasion and under-invoicing have significantly contributed to revenue growth.
This milestone demonstrates the effectiveness of Sri Lanka Customs’ strategic reforms and its commitment to achieving government revenue goals. The department continues to focus on innovation, automation, and transparency to facilitate trade while strengthening national revenue streams.
