Sri Lanka on the brink of being eliminated from the World Cup after losing to Bangladesh.

A Superb bowling performance led by Mustafizur Rahman (3/17) and Rishad Hossain (3/22) helped Bangladesh restrict Sri Lanka to 124/9 in the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

In reply, the Tigers were forced to work hard to eke out a two-wicket win in the penultimate over. Rocked by early wickets, Bangladesh were led by a stable hand from Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy’s 20-ball 40 counter before veteran Mahmudullah hit the winning runs in the 19th over.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field against Sri Lanka on Saturday.

Both teams are not in good form with Sri Lanka losing to South Africa comprehensively after scoring just 77 in their opening encounter while Bangladesh were battered by India in their warm-up fixture.

Bangladesh Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto told Legacy Daily,”Happy with the way everyone played. Run chase wasn’t easy but we didn’t bat well to be honest. Pitch was pretty good. Litton showed his skill today. Hridoy the way he played that over,it helped us. Happy for the crowd and I hope they will come again and support us.”

Meanwhile Sri Lankan Captain Wanindu Hasaranga told Legacy Daily,” We started really well in the first 10 overs but in the middle overs we batted badly. Bowling is our strength. If we had got 150-160 we could have won with our bowling attack. The batters let us down in both games. We still have two games and we will try to do our best. Maheesh and myself are the two main spinners and we have to attack.”

There were no on-field controversies this time but a clean, nervy game. Bangladesh’s clinical bowling forced them back into the game after a rocky start. Sri Lanka were pushed hard to a corner before the bowlers forced a bit of excitement in the middle of a 124-run defense. But in the end, the lack of runs from the Lankan batting order has cost Hasaranga and his men. They have lost two out of two and are already on the brink of a group-stage exit. Meanwhile, the Tigers are up and running with their first-ever win over Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup.
