Sri Lanka Tourism Hits Record High in February 2024 with 218,350 Arrivals
Sri Lanka has achieved a significant milestone in its tourism sector, with February 2024 witnessing a record-breaking 218,350 tourist arrivals, the most in a single month since January 2020. The island also experienced a robust start to the year, with January 2024 seeing 208,253 arrivals, making it the second month in a row to surpass the 200,000 mark, according to Minister of Tourism Harin Fernando.
Minister Fernando took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share these impressive figures, highlighting that the tourism sector’s estimated revenue for the initial two months of 2024 reached USD 710 million. Additionally, a report released on Friday (01) by the Central Bank on Sri Lanka’s external sector performance unveiled that January 2024 alone generated USD 342 million in tourism revenue, setting a new record for the highest monthly earnings since January 2020. This upsurge in tourist numbers, from 102,545 in January 2023 to 208,253 in the same month this year, underscores a significant recovery and growth in the country’s tourism industry.
