News Today: Met Department issues weather advisory predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across Sri Lanka
The Department of Meteorology has issued an urgent weather advisory, warning of heavy rainfall exceeding 75mm in multiple regions of Sri Lanka today. The advisory urges residents to be prepared for possible localized flooding, landslides, and hazardous travel conditions.
Regions Affected by the Heavy Rainfall
According to the official forecast, the following provinces and districts are expected to experience significant rainfall, particularly in the afternoon or night:
- Provinces: Northern, Eastern, Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, and Uva
- Districts: Galle, Matara, Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, and Polonnaruwa
Additionally, showers or thundershowers are predicted at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, and Uva Provinces, as well as in the districts of Matale, Nuwara-Eliya, and Hambantota.
