Sri Lanka’s PUCSL to Review CEB Proposal for Electricity Tariff Cuts

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) is set to hold a meeting on February 28 to deliberate on the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB)’s submitted proposal for lowering tariffs.

A representative from the PUCSL announced that the decision regarding the proposal to adjust electricity tariffs will be made on this date.

The proposal from the national electricity provider to decrease electricity tariffs was presented to the PUCSL on February 22.

Kanchana Wijesekera, the Minister of Power and Energy, has recently informed the parliament that the CEB aims to decrease tariffs by at least the same amount and percentage as the increases implemented in October 2023.

Previously, in October of the prior year, electricity tariffs saw an increase of 18% for homes and places of religious worship, 12% for industrial and hotel sectors, and 24% for governmental bodies.
