News Today: Six Teachers, Principal Arrested for Grade 5 Exam Paper Leak

Six teachers, a school principal, and an assistant supervisor have been arrested for sharing the Grade Five scholarship examination paper using their mobile phones. The incident occurred just minutes before the exam’s commencement, with the question paper reportedly being distributed across areas like Anuradhapura, Nochchiyagama, and Colombo. The paper was shared ten minutes before the exam began, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the examination process.

The suspects, all from government schools in Anuradhapura and Nochchiyagama, are under investigation. The Ceylon Teachers’ Association President, Priyantha Fernando, confirmed the scandal, stating that the exam paper was duplicated through mobile devices. He emphasized the need for strict legal action against those involved, warning that such incidents could severely undermine public confidence in the education system.

The Grade 5 scholarship examination for 2024 was held last Sunday at 2,849 examination centers across the country. This exam is a critical milestone for students seeking scholarships and educational advancement, making the breach all the more serious.

Fernando added that this breach highlights a growing issue in exam security, calling for tougher measures to prevent future occurrences. The authorities are under pressure to ensure a fair investigation and restore trust in the education system.
