News Today: Easter Attack Revelation Raises Serious Questions By Udaya Gammanpila
Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Leader Udaya Gammanpila has made a second revelation on the 2019 Easter attacks, urging the government to investigate an individual who identified himself as a top government official in a Channel 4 video aired in September last year. In a special media briefing, Gammanpila requested the government to find out the identity of the person in the video, who allegedly accused intelligence and military officers while claiming to hold a senior government position.
Gammanpila challenged the government to take action against the individual, should they currently occupy a high-ranking government role, potentially on grounds of treason. He urged the government to prioritize an investigation into these serious allegations over responding with slander, following two reports on the Easter attacks by committees led by retired Supreme Court Justices S.I. Imam and A.N.J. de Alwis.
During his initial media briefing, Gammanpila alleged that the investigation reports on the Easter attacks had not been made public. In particular, he referenced retired Justice A.N.J. de Alwis’s report, which recommends action against former senior police officials Ravi Seneviratne and Shani Abeysekera, who now hold prominent government roles. In response, Government Spokesperson Minister Vijitha Herath assured that a thorough investigation into the 2019 Easter attacks, including the reports mentioned by Gammanpila, has been initiated.
