Digitization Key to Fighting Corruption and Boosting Efficiency: URF Leader
News Today: URF Leader Patali Champika Ranawaka on Digitization in Public Services
United Republican Front (URF) leader MP Patali Champika Ranawaka stressed the need for digitization of public service activities to prevent corruption and enhance efficiency. Speaking at the Colombo district convention of his party, Ranawaka emphasized that digitizing processes such as issuing government certificates, and payments of bills and fines would increase transparency and reduce large-scale corruption.
Ranawaka highlighted that the current lack of transparency in these activities has led to significant corruption, which can be curbed through comprehensive digitization. He pointed out the importance of implementing a Unified Interfaith Payment system, which would streamline transactions and further bolster transparency in public services.
He noted that neighboring countries like India and Bangladesh are already engaging in digitization efforts and making significant progress. By following their example, Sri Lanka can modernize its public service sector, leading to increased efficiency and reduced opportunities for corrupt practices.
Ranawaka urged the government to prioritize digitization as a key strategy to improve governance and service delivery. He stressed that adopting digital solutions would not only combat corruption but also enhance the overall efficiency of public services, benefiting the entire nation.
The URF leader called for immediate action to implement these digital reforms, reiterating that the future of Sri Lanka’s public service sector lies in embracing technological advancements.
