Urgent Weather Advisory: Strong Winds & Showers Expected
News Today: South-west Monsoonal Development Brings Strong Winds & Showers
The Meteorology Department has issued a weather advisory indicating that the prevailing windy conditions over the island nation are set to continue due to active South-west Monsoonal development. Strong winds reaching up to 50-60 kilometers per hour (kmph) are expected at times. These winds are likely to affect the Western slopes of the Central Hills and will spread across the Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces. Districts such as Trincomalee, Monaragala, and Hambantota are also anticipating this weather pattern.
For other parts of the island, the forecast mentions fairly strong winds blowing up to speeds of 30-40 kmph intermittently. In addition to the winds, multiple spells of showers are predicted across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, along with the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of these weather conditions. Secure loose outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas. Stay updated with the latest weather information from reliable sources.
