Government Resumes Visa Issuing Under Previous System
News Today: Visa Issuing Resumed as Government Fixes System Amid Challenges
The issuing of visas under the previous system resumed last night after the government took swift action. Minister of Public Security, Vijitha Herath, announced that foreigners can now apply for visas online, which will be processed within 24 hours. This decision comes after many faced challenges using the VFS Global system, particularly tourists and business travelers entering Sri Lanka.
Minister Herath explained that the Ministry of Public Security intervened following a court decision to address the issues caused by the VFS Global visa system. He assured that resuming the previous visa process will ease the burden on travelers and businesses. Furthermore, a forensic audit has been initiated to investigate any irregularities associated with VFS Global, and legal action will be taken if discrepancies are discovered.
This move is expected to significantly benefit the business and investment sectors, which rely heavily on smooth and efficient visa processes. Foreigners visiting Sri Lanka can now expect faster and more reliable visa services, ensuring a better travel experience overall.
