World Bank’s Major Assistance for Sri Lanka’s Development

News Today: World Bank prioritizes financial and technical support in Sri Lanka

The World Bank Group (WBG) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s development through financial and technical assistance. During a virtual meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, WBG President Ajay Banga highlighted prioritizing education, healthcare, and social protection to drive economic prosperity.

President Dissanayake emphasized poverty alleviation in rural areas, digitalization to boost government revenue, and strengthening sectors like tourism, energy, SOEs, and the maritime industry to attract investors. Efforts to promote economic growth in the Northern and Eastern regions through enhanced education, healthcare, and vocational training were also discussed.

Ajay Banga reiterated the World Bank’s commitment to job creation, economic competitiveness, and institutional development. The focus extends to agriculture, water management, climate action, environmental sustainability, infrastructure, and digital transformation.

This collaboration aims to enhance Sri Lanka’s socio-economic framework, supporting sustainable growth and resilience.
